We have plants for any type of gardener: long-time gardener or young aspiring green thumb. Even the most frigid of climates don’t trouble our cultivars, including some of the toughest cultivars in the world.
Zone 3 Goes In The Dark Negatives
It’s one of the coldest geographic parts of the US. It is winter-ready to -40°F or -30°F, and it encompasses northern Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Maine and New York.
Our Zone 3 winters are long and cold and they’re not for beginner gardeners. Always shop around for plants that work in your local climate and factor in local factors before making plant purchases.
Ideally you should go for plants that are extremely cold hardy, such as ones that will be able to survive very long periods of freezing temperatures. By freezing I mean frosh here is a real consideration. Growers should expect the last frost on May 15, but two weeks earlier or later.
You may not heat your soil quickly in the spring. For the season to go on, consider a greenhouse, row cover or rock garden.
The better you know your plant hardiness zone, the more productive you will be this season.
