Periwinkle Plants are Best Known for their Hardy Spring and Summer Blooms
This ground cover plant is best known for its lush, green foliage and flowers that bloom during the spring and summer. The color depends upon the variety but can include blue, white, and pink. The USDA hardiness zones recommended for this plant is 4 to 9 and grows best in well-drained soils. When planted 4 to 6 inches apart, this plant will form a thick ground cover and be approximately 4 to 6 feet off the ground when fully mature. It also grows best if pruned back during the spring, because it comes back very quickly.
Vinca Minor is a great choice for any area of the garden that needs some coverage. It is also a good option for areas near pathways and concrete porches. It is also helpful in controlling erosion and thrives on sloping hillsides.
Periwinkle bares small blue flowers and stretches moderately fast across forest floors. This plant grows best in full sun, but can also thrive in shaded areas. Periwinkle, being a ground cover plant, grows only three to six inches tall, but can climb out several feet a year in rich, well-drained soil. This plant is a beautiful ground cover.
