Japanese Honeysuckle

The Japanese Honeysuckle is a magnificent flowering vine that is native to Asia, China, Japan, and Korea. These wonderful perennial vines will have the most amazing blooms during the months of late spring until early autumn. The blooms look like little trumpets that are colored white and yellow. These will attract many different species of butterflies, bees, birds and hummingbirds. It also can grow a small fruit that is almost black in color and will also attract other types of small wildlife. These vines are very fast growers and will overtake most anything in its path. It is even banned in some states due to its invasive nature. However, if monitored and pruned back, it will be beautiful to enjoy. These vines are very hardy and make super privacy hedges when planted near fences. They have very dense growth. These plants are amazingly tolerant to pests, diseases, and even drought. They are so easy to grow and will do well in urban areas as well as rural. These plants people know them for the medicinal qualities and have been used to treat headaches and sore throats. They will grow best when planted in USDA Climate Zones 3 through 7 although they have also been known to thrive in other zones as well. These plants can grow to lengths or heights of 33 feet or more in the right conditions. They will begin blooming in mid spring and continue until early autumn. They thrive in full to partially sunny areas and do not do as well in the shade. Although soils with good drainage, they can adapt easily to other soil conditions too. As long as moisture and drainage are available, these will grow in most soil types. The botanical name for these stunning vines is Lonicera Japonica.
