Indian Pink is a Moist Climate Wildflower
Indian Pink – Spigelia marilandica. The Indian Pink is a woodland root plant from the Solanaceae family. The Indian Pink is a wildflower that grows well in moist climates. It grows in clump-like blooms and reaches an average height of 18 inches. It is considered by many to be one of the most appealing wildflowers due to its vibrancy, and it is also one of the less common types of wildflowers in the United States.
Indian Pink are Excellent Additions around Paths and Flower Beds.
The Indian Pink flower has tubular blooms that are on display May through June of the growing season. It grows well in shaded and forested areas and is popular amongst gardeners because it attracts hummingbirds. It may be planted in garden beds, in potted containers, and along walkways to enhance a path. It is found often growing in the wild throughout the Midwest Ozarks, along with mountainy areas, and in dense forest regions. Because this plant is used to the forested areas, oak leaves provide an excellent compost to give it desirable nutrients so that it can thrive.
Best to plant during May and June. Indian Pink has a pink colored, but almost red in the center to make it bold. Needs to have fertile, moist soil. It does not require fertilizer; it can adapt. These plants are prone to pests like insects, and they can not compete with weeds or aggressive plants. Add anywhere for color addition. Indian Pink brings color. These plants look great around paths in your gardens, your flower beds, and just about around anything. These are lovely and pretty plants with lots of colors. One needs to collect the seed heads before they burst everywhere, which ejects the seeds. These seeds can be saved and transplanted anywhere else. Transplanting this plant and re-growing makes it a favorite.
