Product Description

Highbush Blueberry-Vaccinium corymbosum

The HI Bush Blueberry produces large and luscious blueberries that are just the right amount of sweetness. It typically produces very sweet fruit in the early midseason. It displays a beautiful display of green leaves in the summer, and turn beautiful colors in the fall. If planted among other blueberry varieties you will extend the harvest season of your HI Bush Blueberry plant and it will really thrive as well. This is a plant that will add a lot of interest to your garden while producing wonderful fruits for you to enjoy. If you love blueberries, the HI Bush Blueberry is a great choice that comes with many extra perks such as color and beautiful flowers.

Highbush Blueberries are tall plants with the berries being larger than lowbush blueberries, and produce more berries than the lowbush. The flavor of a Highbush Blueberry is less sweet and strong compared to the lowbush variety. When planting Highbush Blueberries keep in mind they are not easily grown and for best results need to be pampered a bit.

The PH level of the soil you are going to plant a Highbush in must be under 5. If the PH level in the soil is between 5 and 6.5, adding sulfur will increase the acidity of the ground and should the PH level be higher than 6.5, a raised bed with the right kind of soil and sun exposure can work. Highbush need to be mulched and fertilized occasionally, as mulching will keep out weeds and keep the moisture in the soil and fertilizing with a rich combination of potassium and phosphorus will help greatly. Plants need to be out of the way of strong winds and areas that drain poorly.

Highbush Blueberry plants blossom in flowers in the spring, have beautiful green leaves in the summer, and in fall, turn colors that are outstanding. It is best if a Highbush is planted with other blueberry varieties to not only lengthen the harvest season, but plants do better. Plant in early spring, five to seven feet apart in rows eight to ten feet apart, and plant in a hole roughly two times the diameter of the plant. Plant the bush in lower than it was at the nursery, mulch after planting, and prune flowers off bush for the first two years.
