Description

Eastern Red Cedar

Eastern Red Cedar - Juniperus virginiana is a hardy native conifer that grows between 40-50 feet in height when exposed to full sun. Birds and other small critters are attracted to the tree's bluish seed cones that sprout in the spring. The tree takes on a brownish hue in the winter months. The wood of the Eastern Red Cedar is loved due to its workability and durability.

The Eastern Red Cedar is widely-known for its medicinal purposes.

The bark is still used today as a traditional herbal medicine to relieve coughs, bronchitis and even arthritis. The trees are also known to have long lives, with some living for hundreds of years. The drought tolerant, heat tolerant, and cold tolerant Easter Red Cedar tree are perfect for every climate from the north to the south, and it's an ideal tree for either city, rural, or country locations.

The Eastern Red Cedar's naturally sweet and woodsy smell functions as a natural repellent to pests, and so it's typically insulated from many diseases caused by pests that affect evergreen trees.

Nonetheless, its dense foliage functions as a habitat for birds and desirable wildlife. This beautiful evergreen tree creates an attractive privacy screen, and it blocks out a lot of noise. The Eastern Red Cedar is a high functioning tree, as well a gorgeous staple to your landscaping. It thrives when planted in fertile soils and can adapt to other types of soils. These are lovely evergreen trees and work great to provide a border or natural privacy fence for a property. They grow to become thick and dense and are perfect for bringing birds to the area as they love to build nests inside the limbs of the tree. They produce lovely fragrant pine needles that can also be used for mulching around a home or added to gardens.
