There are only just a few weeks from the beginning of fall, and many people will be taking trips to check out all the beautiful colors of the season. There are several places around the country where the changing of the leaves from green to bright orange, red, and gold is spectacular. If you are lucky enough to take in fall in its entire splendor, here are some of the best places to check out the wonders of nature this time of year. Maple trees have gorgeous fall colors.
Aspen, Co-When I think of Aspen, I usually think of snow, but who knew this was a perfect place to view the changing of the colors. September is the time of the year to go before all that nasty winter weather hits.
The Catskills-The Catskills in upstate New York is a prime vacation spot for New Yorkers looking to escape the grind of city life. But did you know it is a prime spot to view beautiful fall colors? The best time of the year to go is mid-September to late October.
Columbia River Gorge-The Columbia River Gorge is one of the most picturesque scenes on the West Coast. It’s located in Oregon, and the trees surround a waterfall. You have about a month (from mid-September to mid-October) to visit.
Green Mountain Byway in Vermont-When I think of Vermont, I think of maple syrup from the maple trees from which they come. That’s what can be expected to see on this 11 mile stretch of highway, which showcases not only maple trees but birch and beech trees as well. It’s a nice drive.
Napa Valley, California-Wine, a country, is an ideal spot to take in the fall sights. Imagine riding along the Silverado Trail, checking out the gold, purple and crimson colors of the grapevines along the way. October seems to be the right time of the year to go. The temps are around the 80’s which is perfect California weather.
Skyline Drive, Va.-In the hills of Northern Virginia, lays the Shenandoah National Forrest, a 105-mile stretch lined with scarlet oak, red maple, and sugar gum trees, just to name a few. Tourists are attracted to the scenery, but it seems that a few woodland creatures are too. Don’t be surprised if a bear or two comes out during your visit.
The smoky Mountains, Tennessee-Before tourists, hit that Virginia trail, they will more than likely check out the Great Smoky Mountains that run between Tennessee and North Carolina. If you have never been through this part of the country, you are in for a treat. Unlike other parts of the country where the fall foliage starts in early September, tourists have a whole fall to check out the scenery from October to early November. See more fall trees for sale.
There are other places besides the few I have named that also feature fantastic views of fall foliage. It all depends on what time of the year you want to visit. For those who want to take a trip up the East Coast and visit places like New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont, your best bet is to go in the early fall when the weather is nice, but the weather can change quickly up there, so keep that mind while you are making your plans; same with the Midwest. October seems the ideal time of year for those who want to visit the West Coast during the fall. The temps are ideal, not too hot or too cold, and the colors of the year are magnificent. But for those visitors who are not in a big rush, then the South in the fall may be perfect for you. The turning of the leaves may be slower than in other parts of the country, but it’s worth the wait.
