Its leaves are long and lance-shaped, growing 3-4 inches long. The leaves are a shiny bright green with a lighter green underside. In the spring, it produces catkins with tiny yellowish flowers, male and female blossoms occurring on different trees. Often, these are some of the first springtime blossoms producing nectar for the bees!

Black willow
The Black willow is the greatest of the willow tree varieties and grows throughout North America. Its wood is thick and durable and doesn't easily split or splinter. The tree has a long lifespan and can live longer than one hundred years. Its bark is a dark brown color, and can sometimes look black. The leaves are long and have a dark, glossy green appearance on the top side, while the underside of the leaves is bright green. During the fall, the leaves have attractive yellowish hues. Black willows experience new growth during early spring and develop small yellow blooms. In landscape design, they are primarily popular along streams but are beneficial anywhere.
