Product Description

Black Gum Tupelo Tree Is 1-3 Feet When Shipped

Nyssa Sylvatica, better known as the Black Gum Tupelo Tree, or simply the Black Gum is a plant that can be positioned in a wide range of habitats and hardiness zones. Gardeners and landscape professionals up and down the eastern coast of the U.S. and into many areas of the central U.S. have the opportunity to enjoy the Black Gum Tupelo Tree in its natural habitat; portions of central Florida through to northeastern Ohio are the natural home to this tree. Growing conditions for the Black Gum Tupelo Tree vary from dry, arid landscapes to wetland areas. The narrow trunk of the tree grows in a straight fashion with branches extended at right angles to form a regular pyramid pattern when a juvenile and grows to become fuller as the branches droop with age.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the Black Gum Tupelo Tree are the irregular shaped leaves that can take an oval or rounded shape with a waxy green appearance in the Spring and early Summer; as the Summer progresses to Fall the Black Gum Tupelo Tree begins its attractive display of burnt orange, purple and brown leaves that add interest for landscape professionals. The Black Gum Tupelo Tree grows at its maximum efficiency when positioned in a position that is not crowded with other trees as the tree does not cope well when competing for water and nutrients. For landscape professionals the tree is a popular choice to provide small areas of shade in larger areas of parks and open spaces in large properties where its spectacular color adds drama to any area.
