Barnyard Grass – Echinochloa. Barnyard Grass is an annual California native that roots around ponds, vineyards, orchards, and rice fields. This is an attractive green grass when used for landscaping as it can grow up to 5 feet. Blooms appear between June through October. Flowers grow meshed together with the structure of the bloom looks like small knots and are sometimes purple, pink, or red. The branches at the base of the grass spread in an attractive open pattern. This grass is fast growing with shallow, fibrous roots and can be used to cover large areas of landscapes for a natural look.
